35 in 35

I am blessed with two gorgeous Gucci bags. My life had never been so well planned to the T like it was in 2019. It was a year that I turned 35 and planned to celebrate my birthday throughout the year. I am a January babe and excited to kick start my 35th year with a bang. I had a list of 35 new things to do and 35 places to see. Everything was about 35 and I was ready.

My Gucci’s and I celebrated my 35th birthday in Durban. Experienced Umlazi and had our mouth watering braai at Eyadini, snorkel at the Ushaka Marine and reconnected with UTata Mandela at Nelson Mandela Capture Site in Midlands Meander. It was special and was in the right direction ticking off my long list.

Upon my return from Durbs, I attended a coaching seminar on personal development and goal setting and was fired up to re engineer my life. On my way home back from the coaching session I went via Woolies in Morningside to pick up a few things (part of 35 in 35, getting ingredients and preparing new meals). It started drizzling a bit and the roads were wet. On Rivonia road and Winter roads, towards Sunninghill just before the traffic lights, a white Audi in front of us decided to take an illegal UTurn and caused a horrendous 5 car pile up. I was in that pile up. My car was hit from behind by a Toyota venture and the owner didn’t have insurance and I had just cancelled my comprehensive cover 3 days prior the accident and was only on a 3rd party cover. I managed to call my family, my elder sister and hubby came through, we towed the wrecked car to my house whilst i phone around for a reasonable panel beater to fix it. (The well recommended panel beater that I ended up using from Selby did a horrible work on my car, used second hand parts, died before addressing the snags and I had paid him in full. I was forced to take in my car to Renew It Rivonia to get it back on the road.- this is another story for another day)

Instead of reflecting on the accident and taking time off, I got onto my Vespa on Monday and went to work. The next day, Tuesday the 29th Jan, just 9 days after my big day and 3 days after my dreaded car accident, I am in an accident again with my Vespa on Ben Schoeman highway towards Midrand just before Samrand. it was about 06:15am on my way to work with my new leather jacket. I got hit from nowhere and ended up at Unitas hospital. I was picked up by an ambulance. I hear it was a blood bath. A colleague of mine was able to spot me on her way to work and managed to share the news. I was unconscious, the only thing I remember on that morning is paramedics cutting my new leather jacket. I wanted to jump and stop them. I paid a fortune for that jacket and now it ends up in ruins, deliberately snipped by dear paramedics (I must still claim it back lol).

Take Aways;

1. Short Term Insurance is important. Don’t ever go without it. I tried saving bucks here and there and that cost me more than I bargained for. They call it penny wise pound foolish…Don’t do that.

2. Take time to deal with your pain/trauma, I had not processed the Saturday accident and got onto the bike to face another accident. I think it could have been avoided had I allowed myself to go through it all. 3. 35 in 35 was exciting, however I think I had lumped so much in one that maybe, just maybe the accident was God’s way of getting my attention to listen and ponder. Bringing me into alignment as many parts of me were “all over”/scattered. I needed to connect with myself on a hospital bed. That changed my life for the better in so many ways. I’m not rushed anymore. I truly believe everything has time and God speaks to us witb every moment. We just need to open up and listen.

Ps: Also don’t pay in full before work is complete. It’s best to pay in segments, checking on the quality before parting with your hard earned money.

What are some of your life’s lessons? Your wake up calls that altered the way you do and look at things?

Until next week, Have a Wondrous Wednesday.

Sealed with Love

Beautiful written encounter Manana. I've been on a third party cover for almost a year now with the same reason of saving. Perhaps it's time I shop for that short term car insurance after all. Ke se be ngwana ma hana ho tjwetswa!

Thank you Manana. I would strongly advise on getting full cover. I think it’s a good protection from financial harm should we experience loss and it is recommended that we review it annually.
